The brachah to each Av was not specific as to which child would receive it. This could be perhaps to allow for each child to have Bechirah (free choice) to become the "chosen one". When Yitzchok & Yakkov did in fact develope to be chosen, the brachah was directed to them specifically.
Alternatively, I think a blessing must have a receptacle to recieve the blessing and therefore the brachah must be placed upon each indivdual.
